As we begin...
Hello, yes, this is indeed the devlog. Sorry, this is my first time playing with this feature, so this is very much learning by doing.
As I've just created the game page, I want to share the current progress on the playable demo. Currently I'm focusing more so on the cinematic scenes that will be the beginning of the demo. You'll find a hacky illustration below:
As you can see in this Krita drawing, currently ROOT ACCESS is conceptually split into 3 acts. The demo will skip the tutorials of "Act 0", just to have it ready quicker. Act 0 requires a lot of specific tutorial logic to write.
The Demo will include the first act. Marked in orange are the cinematic, or, heavily scripted scenes. The blue is the raw metroidvania gameplay, and the red? The red is also there!
I don't yet know what itch.io user expect, frankly, so I'll have to figure out how to talk to y'all effectively as we're going ahead with this project. I've got most components ready for the core gameplay (missing one specific enemy type that'll start appearing half-way through). I'm also almost done with the initial cinematic sequences, so that's when the first things might roll out.
Since it's hard to get excited about a game you've never seen I'll also add a screenshot to this post. Special thanks to Benjamin Anderson as well as Kancade for most of the spritework.
The demo will feature a 1bit style throughout.
I am really looking forward to getting you something to play and try out! It's gonna take a week or two until I'm happy with it. On that note: How do you like the projects you follow to operate? What are your expectations to the devs in communication? I am new to this platform, so I do really appreciate a few pointers form those who stumble upon this first post!
